Learning About Electricity
In the first two weeks of this project, we learned about electricity and circuits. Our principal, Mr. Hauger, an electrical engineer and math teacher, led the class. He raised questions like:
Students took notes in Google Docs. Mr. Hauger also introduced Ohm's Law: We tested out Ohm's Law by building circuits with Snaptricity kits and measuring the current, voltage, and resistance. Students sketched their circuits and recorded their measurements. The circuits incorporated batteries, wires, LED lights, an amp meter, and a switch.

Building Circuits with Snaptricity Kits
We used Snaptricity kits to conduct an electricity lab. Students built circuits, drew diagrams, and recorded measurements.
Building Simple Lamps
In the second week of the project, students used their knowledge of circuits to build a simple lamp with a 2x4 as the base.
Assessment
The first two deliverables for this project were the simple lamp and an electricity quiz. The simple lamp was easy to assess; either it lit up or it didn't! By the end of the second week, every student had built a working lamp. The electricity quiz was written and graded by Mr. Hauger. Most students did very well!
